Papers, hours and fees
Passports
Every traveller must present a valid passport to enter and depart the British Virgin Islands, by air or by sea, at every age. A US passport card is accepted for sea arrivals only.
Visas
Most nationalities do not require a visa for a short visit; some do. Check with the nearest BVI Tourist Board office or your local British Embassy. The BVI Chief Immigration Officer can be reached on +1 (284) 494-3471.

Fees on a charter
Typically settled through your APA and handled by the crew:
- Environmental and tourism levy
- approximately $10 per person, one time
- Customs and immigration clearance
- approximately $10–$25 per person
- Cruising permit
- per foot per day, higher in peak season (1 December – 30 April)
- National Parks Trust
- approximately $4 per person per day, plus overnight mooring at premium anchorages
- Departure tax
- approximately $20 per person by sea
Children are charged as adults. Your crew handles the paperwork; you just need passports to hand on arrival.
